Autumn turns toward Winter
Light softens, days shorten, nights, shivery and cold
Leaves swirl to the ground
caught in invisible gusts
Fires and candles softly light the evening
Soups are made from brightly colored squashes and root vegetables
Sipping hot tea and rubbing their bellies
Women wait for their babies to arrive
Wondering, Wondering
New parents rock and shush and soothe their milk-drunk babes
as the darkness of this inward season settles in.
- Mary Burgess

Perhaps the best way to care for ourselves, our babies, our families, is to deeply nourish ourselves as Mothers during the season of darkness. At Life Song, we are creating communities of Mothers and Babies and Families, nurturing them with wonderful and unique class offerings and services. Spend some of the dark days, deeply nestled into your cave. And spend at least one day per week nurturing yourself in community. Check out Breastfeeding Cafe, come in and weigh your baby, take a Breastfeeding Class, nourish your deep self with a massage. You’ll see, your whole family, and all you touch, will benefit from the gentle practice of deeply nourishing yourself.

Come on In. Bring a Friend.

  • FREE Baby Weighing for mamas & babies, Mondays, 10am-10:30am. Registration required. A lovely and free way to check on how baby is gaining weight.

Celebrating World Breastfeeding Week, Aug 1-7. Day #3 Image, Affirmation, and Action.

Affirmation: My milk and me are the most important things for my baby.

Action: Capture a sweet little print of your baby’s hand today, using a bit of paint or a stamp pad, or take the outline of her hand with a colored pencil. Stick it on the fridge, or in a sweet little place that you can see it. If you are back to work and nursing, put this in your pump bag, a sweet reminder of your little child.

Be sure to check out Breastfeeding Cafe each Monday morning from 10am-11:30am at Life Song Perinatal Wellness Center, located at 2430 Cornwall Avenue, Bellingham, WA, in the lower level of the Bellingham Birth Center.

Affirmation:

I am feeding my baby with my whole heart and soul.

Action:

Today, spend 10 minutes on your self. Nurture something in yourself, so you can better nurture your aby. For instance, spend 10 minutes looking at the sunset, noticing your breath and the beauty around you. Or spend 10 minutes slowly brushing your hair. As a breastfeeding mother, as a mother who feeds her baby with her heart and soul, you give so much. Do something wonderful and deeply nurturing for yourself today.

Celebrating World Breastfeeding Week: Aug 1-7 with a new breastfeeding image & Affirmation each day.

Day #1:

Affirmation:

My body knows how to make milk and nurse my baby and I will let it flow freely

Action:

Today, spend one minute absolutely present to the beauty of your baby – her smell, her softness, her shining eyes when she looks at you. Feel this moment deeply in your body, as though you were imprinting it into your body forever.
