As you probably have heard, Bellingham’s beloved Mother Baby Center is in financial crisis and on the brink of closure. In an effort to raise funds and promote community awareness about the vital services Mother Baby Center provides our community, the Whatcom Doulas Association has organized a Family Walk for the Mother Baby Center. (www.motherbabycenter.org)
Truth is, the Mother Baby Center serves approximately 50% of the babies born in Whatcom County. Likely, you or someone you know has benefited from their services.
And now, we are asking for your help.
Please join us for the Family Walk for the Mother Baby Center. Mark your calendar with the details:
Family Walk for the Mother Baby Center
Date: Saturday, June 28, 2008
Time: Welcomes start at 10:00 a.m., & Walk starts at 10:20 a.m. (check-in begins at 9:30 a.m.)
Place: The Walk will begin at the Fairhaven Village Green. Walkers will travel down the South Bay Trail, down Taylor Dock, and make the loop at Boulevard Park, then return to the Village Green for gathering, sharing, picnicking on the grass (bring a small blanket), and music by Bellingham’s own Sweet Beats! The whole loop takes approximately 1 hour (walking with children).
Who: You! You are invited to join us! Bring your friends, your family, snacks, water, sunscreen, strollers, slings… (but you can leave your doggies at home).
Cost: Suggested donation is $5 – $500. As an awareness campaign, we don’t want anyone left out due to finances; as a fundraiser, $20 or more would be wonderful! Donations will be accepted during registration.
The first 200 walkers signed in will receive Mother Baby Ribbons.
If you are unable to walk, but still want to donate, please send your donation directly to the Mother Baby Center: 851 Coho Way, Suite 301, Bellingham, WA 98225 or give on-line at: http://www.motherbabycenter.org . And if you do this, please tell them which doula sent you this note. In addition, we want to acknowledge everyone’s contribution, so if you send a donation, include your name with it.
Time is short to save the Mother Baby Center, and this is a grassroots event: This event is just weeks away, and most advertising will be by word-of-mouth and email circles. Please pass this email along to anyone who might be interested in joining our Family Walk for the Mother Baby Center.
